Zuid Holland Loop
118,1 km - Capelle a/d IJssel -> Nieuwerkerk a/d IJssel -> Moordrecht -> Gouda -> Haastrecht -> Schoonhoven -> Kinderdijk -> Rotterdam -> Delft -> Voorburg
River-and-polder run that follows the Hollandsche IJssel past old trading towns, crosses the silver city of Schoonhoven, brushes the windmills of Kinderdijk, and threads Rotterdam’s Tunneltraverse before finishing via Delft into Voorburg.
Road type
Mostly 60-80 km/h dike and polder roads with tight shoulders; surface ranges from clean asphalt to short brick sections through the villages. Urban pieces in Rotterdam and Delft include traffic lights and lane changes; the Tunneltraverse is fast and smooth.
Traffic
Quieter on the dikes early morning or late evening. Expect cyclists and farm traffic between Nieuwerkerk, Gouda, Haastrecht, and Schoonhoven; more city flow around Rotterdam/Delft during the day.
Conditions
Open polders catch crosswinds; watch for blown sand or mud on the IJssel dikes and near farm accesses. Ferry or bridge approaches can be slick when damp. Tunneltraverse speed limits are enforced.
Notes
Stay on the through-road between waypoints; most roundabouts are straight-through. If you hit a detour, rejoin the GPX a bit further ahead along the same river. Service schedules on local ferries can vary early/late; double-check if your nav suggests one.
